Maybe singing technique is simple.
I’m a master of distilling information, and teaching it. I don’t sell the “Babich Voice Technique”, but I’ve studied with so many teachers, for so long, and performed professionally in all of the major genres - folk, rock, alternative, classical, musical theater, rap, jazz, - hell, even country. I’ve learned what all of these styles have in common - and what they don’t. And more importantly, I’ve learned to make sense of all of the ‘noise’ and distill it into something easy to understand and EXPERIENCE.
Now, reading this won’t make you suddenly become a great singer. But perhaps it can demystify the voice technique landscape.
Good technique means the development and coordination of five systems:
Body and Breath
Phonation
Registration
Sound Shaping
Expression
Good voice teachers are paid the big bucks because we need to deeply understand how these are connected, be able to HEAR what you are doing, and be able to GUIDE you toward improvement.
So — why do I say simple?? Well — while each of these areas could potentially be a deep dive of exercise and practice - it’s very clear what the objective is. You just need someone guiding you through it.
